On Oct. 9, I went to see the legendary country music duo Brooks & Dunn live in concert at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. I had just turned 21 earlier that week and had been planning to go to this event with my parents for some time.

Beginning their music journey together in 1990, Leon Eric “Kix” Dunn and Ronnie Dunn have gone on to make their mark in the country music realm. Over the last 36 years of being a group, the duo has been awarded 20 Country Music Association (CMA) awards, 16 of which being vocal duo of the year, as well as 30 wins from the Academy of Country Music (ACM) with many of those being for best vocal duo, five wins at the American Music Awards (AMA), as well as two Grammy’s for their songs “Hard Workin’ Man” and “My Maria.”

The show was fantastic from start to finish. The concert opened with Caylee Hammack, a newer face in the country scene whose act ranged from original pieces to a Dolly Parton Tribute with “9 to 5.” Next up was Tucker Wetmore, a popular newer male vocalist and songwriter in the country scene. He sang multiple of his own songs, such as “3,2,1,” “Brunette,” and ended with “Wind up Missin’ You".

What really sat well with me from Wetmore’s act was how he focused on the purpose of humanity being to love one another, and stating at the end of his set that it was all possible because of his savior, Jesus Christ. It just goes to show that no matter who you are or where you come from, Jesus really is the answer and that His call to love one another needs to be lived out in every way possible.

Finally, it was time for Brooks & Dunn to come out and do their part of the show. Playing for almost two hours, they went through all of their major hits through the years. From “Red Dirt Road,” to “My Maria” and “Neon Moon,” they put on a fantastic show reminding people why they are one of the greatest duos in the country music scene and perhaps of all time. They are an inspiration to a lot of aspiring artists and lovers of music alike, encouraging them to continue to chase after what makes them enjoy life, and to find the good things that come with it.
