Cornerstone to bring three days of chapel to HSU By: Aniekeme Andy

Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) held Cornerstone from Sept. 15 through Sept. 17, giving students three days of chapel and spiritual programming for the fall semester.

Cornerstone is a special event that brings the HSU community together for several days of worship and messages centered around faith. The event stands out from a regular chapel week because of its extended schedule and focus on spiritual life across campus.

This year's featured speaker was Hannah Lankford, the Capitol Hill and Community Group Minister at Waterfront Church. 

For many students, chapel is already a familiar part of life at Hardin-Simmons. The University regularly holds chapel services during the week, giving students an opportunity to step away from classes and focus on their faith. Cornerstone expands on that experience by dedicating multiple days to spiritual programming.

The event also affected the normal campus routine. Because Cornerstone lasted three days, students could expect the University schedule to be adjusted around chapel programming during Cornerstone week.

Cornerstone is part of the University's larger Spiritual Life program. Hardin-Simmons places an emphasis on Christian faith and values, and chapel events give students opportunities to worship, hear from speakers and spend time with the campus community.

The event comes during a busy part of the fall semester, when students are beginning to settle into classes, assignments and other activities. Cornerstone gave students a chance to slow down and focus on something outside of their normal academic routine.

The three-day event was also different from simply attending one chapel service. With multiple days of programming, students had more opportunities to hear from the featured speaker and participate in the event throughout the week.

Following Cornerstone, HSU's chapel schedule will continue with other speakers and special programming during the semester, including events in connection with the Hispanic Heritage Month.
