Movie Night with SABERS by: Hope Menken

SABERS is Hardin-Simmons University’s student activities board.

The board’s responsibility is to host several annual events such as Fresh Fest, Gilbert’s birthday and the Easter Egg Hunt each year. Members also constantly plan others throughout the year such as the Halloween Bash in October and President Lincoln’s birthday celebration and the Galentine’s party this past week.

SABERS will be hosting a movie night and showing The Great Gatsby on Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cinemark on East Overland Trail for students to attend for free. The first 25 students there will receive a free medium popcorn and drink.

“I am most excited to see this movie because I have never seen it before,” Andrea Ashburn, exercise science pre-physical therapy and president of SABERS from McAllen said. “I also think it is a great way to hang out with friends and who doesn’t love a free movie?”

The Great Gatsby came out in 2013 and is based on the 1925 novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The movie was directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leo DeCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Tony Maguire as Nick Carraway. Midwesterner Carraway moves into a small cottage next door to Gatsby, a business magnate and millionaire of somewhat questionable repute. As he gets drawn into Gatsby’s world of wealth and glamor he also learns the more private details and uncovers the mystery and secrets that are Gatsby. Carraway later recollects these times in his book titled The Great Gatsby

Whether you love dressing to the theme of historic movies, just want an excuse to dress up, or want to be in your favorite t-shirt and sweatpants, this event will be a fantastic night of relaxation and fellowship with friends that you will not want to miss.
