SABERS Spring Events: National Tortilla Chip Day and Casino Night by: Delani Bauer

Hardin-Simmons University’s (HSU) Student Activities Board (SABERS) will host two upcoming campus events, National Tortilla Chip Day and Casino Night.

National Tortilla Chip Day will be celebrated on Feb. 26 at 12:00 p.m. in the Moody Student Center lobby.  Casino Night will take place on March 2 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Johnson Building, Room 103.

National Tortilla Chip Day highlights the tortilla chip and the many ways different people enjoy the delicious snack.  The original tortilla chip was created in Los Angeles in the early 1940s when a tortilla machine malfunctioned.  This malfunction sparked the inspiration that a tortilla could be cut and fried, creating the first such chip.

Sabers will celebrate the occasion in a fun and delicious way, offering students a variety of different chip options.  All HSU students are encouraged to attend and take part in the festivities.

Casino Night is returning to HSU with this semester's theme being “Emerald City.”  The event’s outfit inspiration is the colors red and green, matching the iconic Wizard of Oz color scheme.

Emotional Entertainment will be providing professional casino tables, bringing an authentic experience to the HSU campus.  Students of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.  No prior experience is required, as each game will be taught at the tables so that all participants will know exactly how to play.

A candy spread will be arranged, offering students a variety of sweet treat options to enjoy throughout the evening.  In addition, a soda table will be available allowing students to create their own soda combination using syrups, creamers and other mix-ins.

The games offered will feature black jack and a craps table.  Each game allows players to win chips that can be cashed in for prizes at the end of the event.  The prizes include a Ninja blender, Nespresso machine, Kindle and more.
