Student Activities hosted Party 2 Dye 4 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 on Anderson Lawn for Hardin-Simmons University students to celebrate the start of homecoming week.

Students had the opportunity to get a free t-shirt that said “Have a Yee-Haw Homecoming” on it and got to tye-dye the shirt if wanted. Little Italy pizza and Topo Chico was served while students tye-dyed with their friends.

Party 2 Dye 4 has been an annual event during homecoming week for several years. Student Activities also hosted Love Built Signs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14 on Anderson Lawn to kickoff homecoming week. Students were invited to come and paint wood signs. The categories that students were able to pick from consisted of fall, Halloween or HSU spirit themed. An instructor was present to help take students through the sign building process and offer help if needed.

Emma Ellison, coordinator of Student Activities, shared how the student activity board operated. “Every student on the student activity board is in charge of an event and it is their own to plan and facilitate. There are two people per event in charge,” Ellison said.

Ellison explained her favorite part of working with student activities. “I love to see students’ ideas come to life and I love to help them utilize their specific strengths in order to create and execute their events,” Ellison said.

Ellison shared why she thought student events were important to our campus community. “The goal of student activities is to provide students an all-inclusive environment and give them opportunities outside of the classroom or their sports team where there are exclusive groups to engage with other students and have fun. Providing students with these opportunities will improve their overall HSU experience and will benefit them after they leave college,” Ellison said.
