On Sept. 13, Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) hosted its first tailgate of the year. The event began at 4 p.m. in the Don Bridges Courtyard, located outside of the Newman Richardson Library, and concluded before the Cowboys’ 6 p.m. kickoff vs McMurry University at Shelton Stadium.
The Cowboys came away with a victory in an exciting game, beating their hometown rivals 24-19. On Sept. 20, the HSU Cowboys will face Lubbock Christian University at home with a kickoff time of 1 p.m. A tailgate will take place prior to the game.
Entertainment and music was provided by HSU’s World Famous Cowboy Band, which played throughout the tailgate’s duration. The group highlighted their talent with a special performance encompassing their famous arrangement of songs.
HSU’s Spurs Dance Team energized the crowd with a special debut featuring a new routine. HSU’s Cheerleading Team led the crowd in their exciting chant entitled, “Hey Cowboys, Get Up Get Loud.” Together both teams added a sense of game day spirit, building excitement for Cowboy fans.
An assortment of freshly grilled burgers, drinks, cookies and chips were served. Several HSU Social Clubs set up tables with their own treats including fruit, cupcakes, pretzel bites and more. Each group not only offered snacks, but also encouraged future prospects to learn more about their organization.
Yard games were set up throughout the courtyard, including bean bag toss and cornhole. Many Cowboy supporters gathered around, enjoying the spirit-filled game day atmosphere that the HSU tailgate has come to provide. The food and games were generously hosted by the First Baptist Church.
First Financial Bank hosted a contest for a chance to win a $300 VISA gift card. Sign-ups were available at the bank’s A-frame booth in the courtyard. The game took place during halftime, challenging participants to race down the football field inside a large see-through inflatable ball.
HSU tailgates are held before each home game kickoff, continuing a long-standing tradition that brings the HSU community together. The event encourages fans to connect with their Cowboy family and celebrate game day in true HSU spirit.
