Hardin-Simmons University Apartments: Spring Events By: Delani Bauer

The Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) Apartments are hosting a new event series called Walking Gate Wednesday. As the name suggests, the event takes place next to the apartments’ walking gate every Wednesday.

Each Wednesday morning during this time, HSU’s Residence Life staff sets up a table where apartment residents can receive a free breakfast treat. The treat provided may include a drink, a snack or both.

Walking Gate Wednesday began on Feb. 11, when students received breakfast burritos from Rosa's Cafe & Tortilla Factory. Students had a choice between bacon, sausage or chorizo breakfast tacos.

The event continued the following week, on Feb. 18, when students received an energy drink and a muffin. Students were able to choose from a variety of flavored energy drinks, including Alani Nu, Celsius and Monster Energy. Additionally, they could select from an assortment of muffins, including chocolate chip, chocolate and blueberry.

On Feb. 25, students had the option of a variety of Caprisons and snacks from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Walking Gate Wednesdays will continue throughout the entire spring semester, featuring a different treat each week. Apartment residents will receive a weekly email containing information about the time, location and treat provided for that week.

On Feb. 17, HSU Apartment residents filled the stands at the Mabee Athletic Complex during the women’s basketball game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB). Posters were available to make or take for all HSU students during the game to help support the Cowgirl basketball team.

The first 50 apartment residents received a free hot dog or popcorn, along with a bottle of water. During halftime, the apartments hosted a raffle for residents featuring prizes such as a massage gun and a television.

The HSU Apartments continue to host fun events for residents to participate in each month.
