Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) is hosting its campus-wide service project, Serve Like Simmons, on April 9 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.. The event is open to all current students, faculty and alumni.
Sign-up for Serve Like Simmons has already begun. All HSU students and faculty received an email to their HSU email containing a registration link. This link contains a form which must be completed to participate in Serve Like Simmons. Everyone is encouraged to participate and reflect the values that define HSU.
Event check-in will be held in the Johnson Building Room 103 beginning at 1:00 p.m. and concluding at 1:45 p.m.. A free lunch will be served for all participants beginning at this time, serving as an opportunity for volunteers to gather and connect. A limit of 75 free t-shirts will be distributed at the check-in on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Following event check-in, all volunteers will disperse to the various service locations across Abilene. Volunteering is a great way to connect with the community. It lets the City of Abilene know that we care about them as much as they care about us. Every volunteer will have an opportunity to make a significant impact on the outcome of this year’s project.
All participants will serve alongside local Abilene non-profit organizations. These organizations are dedicated to serving the Abilene community and Serve Like Simmons this is HSU’s chance to give back.
Serve Like Simmons was created in memory of Dr. James B. Simmons, the founder of HSU in 1891. Dr. Simmons demonstrated the core values that all HSU students, facility and alumni continue to exemplify today. This day serves as a time for students to carry on Dr. Simmon’s legacy of service and a Christian enlightened education.
Students are encouraged to sign-up both with friends or individually. Signing up at random gives students the chance to meet new members of the HSU community. HSU athletic teams are also encouraged to sign-up, representing both their team and the HSU community as a whole.
