Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) students, faculty, and staff will lace up their running shoes for the annual Turkey Day 5K on Nov 24 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.. The event, hosted by University Recreations, has become a fall tradition that combines fitness, fun, and campus community spirit before the Thanksgiving break.
The race will begin and end near the HSU Fitness Center, with volunteers from across campus stationed along the course to guide participants and cheer them on. Runners, joggers and walkers of all experience levels are encouraged to take part.
The Turkey Day 5K is known for its festive atmosphere, with participants often showing up in Thanksgiving-themed outfits and creative costumes. Many students treat the race as a friendly competition, while others join simply to enjoy time outdoors with friends and classmates before heading home for the holidays.
Participants can register ahead of time through HSU Central or sign up on-site before the race. Check-in will open at 3:00 p.m., and the race is scheduled to start promptly at 3:30 p.m..
The event has grown in popularity over the years, drawing both serious runners and casual walkers. University Recreation staff work alongside student volunteers to make the race possible each year, ensuring the route is safe, organized and full of energy.
After crossing the finish line, participants can gather near the Fletcher Fitness Center to cool down, enjoy light refreshments and celebrate their accomplishments. For many students, the Turkey Day 5K has become a hallmark of the fall semester, an opportunity to connect with others and embrace a little friendly competition before finals season begins.
