Hardin-Simmons University’s Jazz Ensemble will be hosting their annual concert on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Van Ellis Theatre. This is a free, public performance that will strive to share HSU’s love of music with you by showcasing the talent of our students, faculty and staff.
This year’s performance is video game-themed and will include music such as the Mario theme song and selections from Five Nights at Freddy’s in a jazz-fusion style. It will also feature soloists Colton Bosang, sophomore musical theater major from Waco, on vocals and Camilla Lee, a freshman biology and music performance major from Columbia, Mo., on violin.
Dr. Jeffery Cottrel, associate dean of the School of Music and director of the Jazz Ensemble, encourages the practice and performance of various styles, from swing to progressive rock, to prepare the students for performing professionally after leaving HSU.
“I always look forward to the process of starting some very challenging music in January and seeing it gradually get better and better until the whole band sounds like a professional jazz band,” Dr. Cottrel said. “The reward is experiencing the excitement of the students to realize what they can accomplish and to show it off in concert. This is a really hard program, and they have worked hard to pull it off.”
On behalf of the College of Fine Arts and Media, we invite you to support our music students and fellow music lovers as they share their hard work and passion with you.
