On Oct. 9, I had the opportunity to go and see the country music legend and icon Keith Urban in concert for the first time.
After years of listening to his music and falling in love with his style, I finally was there, in person, getting to see him work and it was beautiful. But before Keith Urban started playing, his show opened with three fantastic country music artists: Karley Scott Collins, Alana Springsteen, and Chase Matthew.
One of the things that I enjoy the most about concerts is getting to see other artists play, apart from the headliner for the show. Sometimes I get to hear an artist like Chase Matthew, who I have listened to before and am familiar with his work, which is always a treat. Other times, I get to listen to artists like Alana Springsteen, knowing of them but not a whole lot about their music and getting to hear more from them in general and leaving wanting to listen to them more often. And finally, I sometimes get to hear an artist that I have never heard of before in my life, like Karley Scott Collins, and I fall in love with their work and their artistry.
For the entire drive home, I listened to more from these three artists, and continued to enjoy how these artists embrace the country genre and add their own spin to it. My main take away from these openers, however, was how they all credited God for their success and for helping them get to this place in their career. Chase Matthew even took the time after his set to share his faith in Christ and to encourage people in the audience to chase after Him.
Keith Urban grew up in Brisbane, Australia and started his music career at 15 after leaving school, taking a leap of faith and pouring into his talent and watching it grow as he got older. Some people are born with talent, and even though he definitely was born with it, Urban took the time to make it something special and grow it from just raw talent into something that could be shared with millions of people. His set consisted of some of his earlier hits and newer songs, celebrating the years that he had spent in the music industry, as well as the release of his new album, High. As someone who has been listening to his music for over a decade, it was a genuinely beautiful experience. Getting to hear him play songs like Messed Up as Me, Kiss A Girl, Long Hot Summer and others was amazing.
In the future, if you are looking for a good time and good music and you see that Keith Urban is on tour, I cannot recommend going and seeing him in person enough. You will not regret it.
