Making the Most of Spring Break: Productive Tips By: Delani Bauer

Hardin-Simmons University’s (HSU) Spring Break takes place March 9 through March 13.  It is important to use the break to relax, rewind and be productive with your time.

As many students leave the HSU campus and are traveling home, it is important for them to travel safely.  Students from all over Texas, other states and across the country are represented at HSU, meaning many have traveled long distances.  No matter the distance or method of transportation, it is important to avoid distractions and stay alert while traveling to and from campus.

Productive Tips

As the Spring 2026 semester comes to a close, end-of-year projects, tests and deadlines are rapidly approaching.  Using extra time to work towards your academic goals helps reduce stress, setting you up for success.

1. Get Ahead on Assignments

It is important to stay up-to-date with your classes on Canvas by checking announcements, reading your syllabus, and reviewing upcoming deadlines.  Getting ahead on assignments during Spring Break decreases a student's workload during the semester.  With the semester rapidly concluding, starting end-of-year projects is a productive use of time, ensuring students work thoughtfully on projects and avoid procrastination.

2. Organize

Spring Break can serve as a reset before students return to school.  Small actions like cleaning out backpacks, organizing papers or color-coding your planner can help improve productivity.

3. Set Goals

Setting both personal and academic goals is a perfect way to reflect on your past and prepare for your future.  Having a goal in mind helps to drive individuals to accomplish more, avoiding burnout in the final weeks of school.  Karli Bauer, a senior art major from Mason, is using her Spring Break to, “set personal goals for after graduation.”  She thinks that it is important to, “have a plan of where you are going to go in your life so that you can start taking steps towards your future now.”

4. Update your Resume and LinkedIn Accounts

HSU students accomplish many great feats throughout the duration of the semester.  Students documenting details about their volunteer work, resume accomplishments and newly earned certifications ensures they will not forget their successes.
