Ricky Ramirez to Perform Senior Recital by: Hope Menken

Updated: Apr 13

Senior worship leadership major Ricky Ramirez from San Antonio will be hosting his senior recital, The Music That Shaped Me, on April 15 at 6:30 p.m. in Logsdon Chapel.

This event is open to the public and is free of charge. Ramirez hopes people will come and celebrate the end of his career through music, worship and fellowship at Hardin-Simmons University.

Ramirez is involved in choir, chapel and concert band. He has also performed at several events throughout his time at Hardin-Simmons including SING and the International Student Fellowship’s World of Wonder. He is a talented musician and singer who strives to connect people to God through music. Ramirez will mark his final solo performance as a HSU student during his April 15 final musical presentation.

The program will be organized into four sections. The first is classical music to represent his original major, voice. In this section, you will hear music including Nessun Dorma, an aria that helped make Luciano Pavarotti, Italian opera tenor, famous.

The second section is titled “The Nashville Section” which is representative of Ramirez’s switch from voice to music business. Through HSU’s Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) program, he spent a spring semester doing an internship in Nashville, Tenn.

The third section is the “Worship” portion. Ramirez wanted this to be included to be symbolic of the summer of 2019 when he gave his life to Jesus. Two years later he changed his major a final time to worship leadership.

This Spring, Ramirez will be graduating. This is represented in the “Goodbye” section of the program. Here, Ramirez will be performing songs saying goodbye to his time as a college student, such as his original Thanks for the Memories. “This song is dedicated to HSU and the people and connections I have met during my time here” Ramirez said.

Following graduation, Ramirez will be staying in Abilene and has accepted a full-time position at a local church. “I am most excited to graduate so I can get into the world and preach the gospel of Jesus and to take a more active part in furthering the Kingdom,” Ramirez said.

Music has been an integral part of Ramirez’s life and he is very excited to share that love with you. “I hope that people get to know my whole story through this,” Ramirez said. “I am not the person I used to be and am excited to share my journey through college and my relationship with Jesus with you.”
