On Feb. 13, Hardin-Simmons University’s (HSU) Spurs Dance Team will host a bake sale in the Moody Center. The fundraiser begins at 11:00 a.m. and will take place outside the University Caf. The bake sale will feature a variety of sweet treats baked by members of the Spurs Dance Team.
The Spurs are raising funds to support their spring mission trip with Mission Arlington. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to sharing God’s love, treating individuals with dignity and respect and providing practical support to people in times of need.
Mission Arlington relies on volunteers like the Spurs Dance Team to serve as the hands and feet of its mission. During their trip, the Spurs will assist with distributing donated items such as food, clothing, housewares and furniture to those in need.
Located in the Metroplex, Mission Arlington's goal is to bring church to the people. The Spurs will help further their mission, serving for a weekend to spread the word of God.
The Spurs are a Christ-centered team led in their faith by Julia Chambers, a freshman biochemistry major from Abilene. As a first-year member of the team, Julia serves in the leadership role of chaplain. “My favorite part about being the Spurs’ chaplain is being able to facilitate challenging discussions about faith with the team,” Chambers said. “I’ve loved growing in my relationship with Christ this year alongside such wonderful people.”
Each season, the Spurs center themselves around a Bible verse. For the 25-26 season, the team verse is Hebrews 10:24, “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” The Spurs’ mission trip provides the perfect opportunity to live out this verse, spreading God’s love to God's people.
