On April 30, at 7:30 a.m. in the Johnson Multipurpose Room, there will be a prayer breakfast organized by the president’s office.
With the end of spring semester approaching rapidly, many students are spending a lot more time than they would probably like, stressing out about finals and final projects. In response, the HSU staff are providing breakfast and a space for prayer this upcoming week.
The first things to go when we are stressed are typically our physical and mental well being. It is not uncommon to witness friends or classmates sacrifice mealtimes or hours of sleep in favor of studying or spending more time on homework. This is especially true during finals, despite the fact that almost every study conducted on student wellbeing indicates that they perform best when they are taking care of themselves. To this end it is important that in the midst of all the busyness we all face as the semester comes to a close, we need to take the necessary time to breathe, connect with the Lord and take care of ourselves. The prayer breakfast is an ideal opportunity for all of the above.
It is a time to take a step back and breathe, no matter where you are in homework, studying for finals or your personal life and the trials and tribulations that they can bring. It is also an opportunity to eat some food and share your burden with friends, those who care about you and those who are going through similar stresses right now.
Prayer is a powerful tool that the Lord has given us. In Philippians 4:6-7 he says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (NIV). His word reminds us that prayer is meant to help us overcome our stressors, we are not meant to sit in our worries.
If you are interested in coming to the prayer breakfast, please stop by the Johnson Building Room 103 on Wednesday, April 30, anytime between 7-8:30 a.m.
