Madness in Mabee, an Energy That Can’t Be Contained

By: Victoria Roach

On Oct. 24, 2020, Mabee Madness was held at Hardin-Simmons University.

Mabee Madness was a mashup of events for HSU Athletics, including an alumni volleyball event, a tailgate in between the Fergison-Nix parking lot and the Mabee Athletic Complex, a volleyball scrimmage between our own HSU Cowgirls and a pep rally of sorts to introduce basketball teams and the upcoming season.

At the tailgate, there was a performance by the HSU Cowboy Band, a crowd favorite. At Mabee Madness there were also appearances by HSCru, the Spurs and HSU Cheer team. All of these groups had great performances that got the crowd excited for the announcing of the teams. Not only were there appearances from these great teams to get energy up for the new season, but there were also raffles and dance-offs between the teams along with three-point shootouts and various other activities.

Stands were safely packed with students, alumni, family, friends, and staff ready for something to look forward to as the semester is coming to an end. Both basketball teams were excited and ready to take on other schools after such a long break. The new season started on Friday, Nov. 6 with the women’s basketball team playing at home at 5:00 p.m., and then again on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. The men’s basketball team took on Howard Payne University on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m This was the first crowd sport of the semester and both teams were ready to take it on strong.

Keep all this excitement from Mabee Madness and carry it for the first games coming up this November and for the games which will continue into the spring semester.
